概要 | This article reports on an assessment that was made of how both teachers and students in a private university’s intensive English program responded to the change to online learning that was necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite initial anxieties by teachers about the forced transition, and the rushed pace of learning how to deploy an array of online modalities, both teachers and students, generally, coped well with the unfamiliar methods of interacting with each other and even found unexpected merits in the new arrangements. However, a minority of students already struggling with personal mental or health issues, found it more difficult to stay motivated and keep up with their classes, with higher rates of failure than usual, despite the fact that teachers were taking an exceptionally flexible approach to student evaluation. |
